January 2010 Newsletter

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

2009 is on the books, what a great year! Tons of great riding/racing this past year. We were pretty much pinned in 5th from January to December.

The beginning of the year saw alot of testing with our resident fast guy Shane Watts. Wattsy started off the year great with a strong 4th overall at the first National Enduro of the year in SC, just missing the podium.

In March we were in FL for the GNCC opener. We worked on settings for the Florida sand, and if you have never seen a GNCC course after the Pro’s hit the track-it’s an eye opener just how rough it gets! National MX has nothing on the GNCC’s!!!

April saw us move the shop to a larger location. The new shop has 5 dedicated bays, in floor heat and a ton of room. We have 3 suspension workstations and this has allowed us to double in size while keeping our turnaround under a week. All six Official Stillwell Performance Shop Puppies (OSPSP) are loving the heated floor, and playing with customers when they stop by!

Shane and I were able to team up for a number of his “DirtWise with Shane Watts” riding schools out here during the spring and summer. We offered free sag setting and basic suspension help, with great results for the students. The response was so positive that in 2010 we are again working together and will be offering a specific segment of the school dedicated to suspension setup and tuning on select dates. Check out www.shanewatts.com for details on a school near you.

In July we were able to get into the high country for the riding season. Also got to test singletrack settings on one of the most exciting bikes to come along in a long time, the new Husaberg. Love it! We ran 3 Bergs back to back in testing and the settings we came away with are awesome. It’s not a KTM, suspension wise that’s for sure. We had test riders from C level guys to Wattsy on it and we have it really dialed in.

I spent most of the month of August riding and testing in the high country of Colorado. Many thanks to my great friends Tim & Linda Bickley for putting me up at their cabin. Tim & I were able to get in over 1200 miles of singletrack riding in August alone! Tim is one of my favorite guys to ride/test with and we had some epic rat races in the backcountry this year! Old guys rule…

We launched Stillwell Performance Adventure Tours this year, and had a total blast with great groups of guys, exploring the backcountry singletrack. Wattsy and his family were there, and Adventure Tour customers were treated to a once in a lifetime opportunity to ride with the World/GNCC champ. As one customer put it “there I was, riding through this NASTY, rocky trail section about 8 inches wide with logs on each side when Shane passed me in a wheelie going about 30MPH faster than I was.” Epic.

We also dove in to the world of EnduroCross racing this past year. This is probably the most exciting form of off road racing to spectate at, and you can look for Stillwell Performance team riders to be at all 6 rounds of the National Series this year.
The late fall brought some bad news as Watts was practicing his inverted cartwheels and was left with a broken back. Good news is he has made a full recovery and is back to “fangin’ it across the paddock”. Think “Podium”, dude…….

We have just finalized the 2010 Race Team for the coming season, check out the press release here. Stoked to be working with some great guys (and gal) this year, and thanks to Race Tech, ZLT Graphics, FunMart Cycles and Carbon Raptor DLC coatings for stepping up support for the team. We will be represented in the ISDE, GNCC, National Enduro, National EnduroCross, WORCS, RMEC and WEBE racing series, and the intent is to kick some serious ass.

So the snow has started to fly and we have been raging on the 2Moto Snowbike conversions. Check below for more info, they are a killer time for sure!

I wanted to say thanks to all the customers who chose us for their suspension work this past year. Our company doubled in size last year, and it was in large part due to your referrals and faith in how we do business. We have a very aggressive expansion plan for this year and you will see me in a lot of different parts of the country riding and testing. We are filming the suspension segment for the latest “DirtWise with Shane Watts” instructional DVD in January, testing the 2010 race bike, then on to SC for the first National Enduro of the year. All this racing has me bitten by the bug again (after a 25 year layoff) so I might pop up at an event near you.

Here’s to a great 2010!!!!!!!

Keep It Pinned,
Alan
