Franktown, CO — Carbon Raptor Stillwell Performance Racing is heading to the Staples Center in Los Angeles to support three of its riders as they compete in the pinnacle of Action Sports, X Games 17 this coming weekend. Geoff Aaron, Kyle Redmond, and Kevin Rookstool will all be competing in the Inaugural X Games Moto X Enduro X event, which is also the first points-paying round of the 2011 Geico EnduroCross series. With over 35 million total television viewers for last year’s X Games coverage, this is by far the biggest event in off-road motorcycling.

Carbon Raptor Stillwell Performance Racing-backed Kevin Rookstool, coming off an impressive 16th-overall finish at the last round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Washougal, will be competing aboard his KTM 250 XC-F and looking to take his impressive motocross speed and off-road prowess to a podium position.

Geoff Aaron, a 10-time AMA Trials Champion and current EnduroCross National #2 will be competing aboard a JG Off-Road / Geico backed Honda along with teammate and EX National #5 Kyle Redmond, both of which have done extensive EnduroCross-specific suspension testing with owner Alan Stillwell to prepare for the event and will both be looking for their first-ever X Games gold medals.

“The X Games is the biggest and most prestigious event in all of action sports and we’re so incredibly stoked to be a part of it. We feel X Games will take EnduroCross as a sport to the next level,” said Stillwell Performance founder Alan Stillwell.

All three riders are seeded directly into the program’s qualifying sessions based off of their 2010 EnduroCross series points, guaranteeing television time for each rider. To catch all of the action tune into ESPN2 Sunday, July 31 at 9:15-11:00 PM EST.

From Cycle News

The 2011 GEICO AMA EnduroCross schedule has been released, and this year’s series will get off to an exciting start as it will take place as part of the X Games 17 in Los Angeles.

The Staples Center will host the first EnduroCross round, which will be part of the eight-race 2011 EnduroCross Championship. It will not, however, include amateur classes.

The following is the release from the EnduroCross Championship promoter…

The ESPN X Games has catapulted the popularity of action sports over the past 17 years and now the world’s top EnduroCross riders will get to showcase their talent on this amazing stage. X Games 17 will feature their version of “Enduro X” inside the Staples Center and the event will become part of the eight race series for the 2011 EnduroCross championship for the expert class. The top 20 riders from the 2010 EnduroCross championship will be invited to compete along with at least ten “Wild Card” entries from around the world. A separate women’s class will be open by invite only.

“We have been working with the ESPN staff for the past six years to make EnduroCross part of the X Games, so it is very exciting to make this a reality,” stated Eric Peronnard, the creator of EnduroCross. “Enduro X will showcase the amazing action and skills necessary to compete on such a challenging course to a whole new audience.”

ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC will combine to telecast 25 hours of live X Games 17 competition. In addition to the 25 original hours in high definition, the Worldwide Leader in Action Sports will also televise 18 hours of X Games action on ESPN 3D. More than 25 hours will also be distributed on ESPN3.com. Outside the United States, X Games 17 will be seen in more than 121 countries and territories to more than 106 million homes, including live telecasts in Africa, Asia, Australia, Brazil, Israel, Mexico, Middle East, New Zealand and South America.

Tickets for X Games 17 will be available for purchase June 23 at all Ticketmaster locations and the box office at STAPLES Center.

Nicole calls the shop in November- “Hey Alan I want to ride the WORCS Series this year in Women’s Pro. It will make me alot faster and I want to overall the ISDE this year-what do you think”??? I just shook my head. You see, this did not surprise me at all. At 38 years old, “Nic Chick” is one of the toughest gals you will ever meet, and routinely beats up on the expert guys (she is the #1 250 Expert in the RMEC in 2011) so this was just normal for her to look for the next challenge. Had she ever seen a motocross track before? No, but that didn’t stop her!

“Let’s do it”. We will put you under the tent, Rookie will help you with your speed and we will have a bunch of fun!

Well after three rounds she is doing great, getting faster each race and all of us at SP are very proud of her!

Those French gals better watch out this year at ISDE!!!!

It’s been over two months now and I still have trouble talking about it.

Rewind to the fall of last year. We were in the midst of selecting Pro riders for our Carbon Raptor sponsored team for 2011 and the phone rang at 8PM. Idaho-had to be my good buddy Patrick Koether from Rekluse. “Hey dude, did you finalize the team yet-I have a guy you should look at”. Patrick has always been an awesome guy with rock solid advice so I figured whoever he was talking about would be worth checking out.

Over the next few weeks Nathan Woods and I must have talked for 20 hours on the phone about racing, goals, family, ambitions and life. This was a two time WORCS Champion, multi time ISDE Gold Medalist and the winningist rider in WORCS history, yet you would not have ever known that from the conversations we had. He was just as down to earth as a person could be, as eager to talk about his family and life as anything else.

But one thing that was obvious after talking with him-there was still that fire burning to win another championship. The more we compared notes the more I knew he was the perfect fit. The sponsors were stoked, Nathan and I were pumped!

The guys in the shop built the new KTM race bikes, loaded them in the boxvan and I took off to California in early January for a week of testing with Nathan and our second team member Kevin Rookstool. We stayed with Nathan and his awesome wife Amanda and rode every kind of terrain, looking to make our bike’s perfect before the season opener. The suspension setup came easy, they were both hauling ass and the week was just a blast. Each guy had such a different style-Kevin is graceful on the bike, while Woody could literally make the ground shake when he went by, and the look behind his goggles was 100% business on the track. The three of us just clicked. Nathan took Kevin under his wing, giving him priceless advice that only a series champion can deliver. We stayed up late a couple of nights, bench racing and working on the logistical nightmare that is how to fit the WORCS, National EnduroCross, ISDE, National Hare Scrambles and some Outdoor Motocross into one season. Nate had great stories and hearing the background on his championship winning seasons was priceless. I left California with a huge smile and the feeling the factory guys might have their hands full……

We rolled into the WORCS opener in Taft, CA on Friday January 28th for practice.

I took Woody’s bike off the stand for practice, warmed it up and watched him climb on. “How do you feel, dude”? “Alan, the bike’s perfect-everything’s perfect. I’m just gonna go rip off a few laps and I’ll be right back”.

Nathan didn’t come back. He died that day on the track. His good friend Kurt Caselli and I were there with him. Words cannot begin to describe the events of that morning.

As much as I was impressed by his racing achievements, what stands out to me about Nathan was the kind of guy he was. His wife Amanda was the centerpiece of his life and racing career, his children Nate and Braxton were front and center in his life and the guy had a laser sharp focus on all the things in life that were important. Our pit was swamped with kids and fans from the moment we unloaded that day, and he enjoyed every second of it. He was a champion in every sense of the word.

Nate was a consummate professional, an excellent test rider (picky as hell, BTW, lol!) and we were going into this season with confidence, knowing our program and bike setup could match the factory teams. We were going to do damage in the WORCS Series this year.

So when you come by our pit or watch Kevin out there tearing it up on the big #13 this year- know our buddy #54 is right there with us.

Keep It Pinned Woody…………………………………..

I wanted to let you guys know how my program has been going over the last few months. I was living up In Medford, Oregon and Alan gave me a call in early December letting me know that he had signed Nathan Woods to the Carbon Raptor Stillwell Performance team and wanted me as the second rider so I took the deal. January 1st I made the move down to Bakersfield CA to live with my buddy Sean Kranyak and work in the oil fields. It was only a couple hours from Nathans house. Alan came out to California in early January with our new KTM’s and the three of us started testing for the first round of the WORCS Series In Taft CA. I can’t say enough about the Woods family- Nathan and Amanda welcomed me with open arms and Nathan, Alan and I all worked great together. We sat down and scheduled out our whole racing year and I was so excited to get it under way.

We show up to Taft for the first round of the WORCS Series, I’m hanging out with Nathan that morning and the vibe was so awesome. And then just like that, Nathan went down in practice and we lost him that morning. It was the saddest point of my life thus far. My heart goes out to Amanda, little Nathan, Braxton and the whole Woods family and friends. I met a lot of great people through Nathan just in the short time we were together. He is missed very much.

So they cancelled the first day of racing in memory of Nathan. Sunday we raced, it was really hard for the team to keep it all together but I managed to leave there with a 6th place finish after going down while running second. After that weekend I took a little time off to regroup.

Next up was Primm, NV WORCS Round 2 were I felt like I had the speed to be up front but we ended up having an engine failure. I left there with my head up looking forward as my speed was good and I had been moving through the pack. That next week Thursday after working all day I loaded up my van and headed north to Oregon to race Friday and Saturday nights at the Arena Cross in Redmond Oregon. I made it there just in time Friday evening for practice. I ended up 3rd in the main that night and 2nd in the main Saturday night- all with my off-road suspension and 18-inch rear wheel!!! So I grabbed my purse money and headed north another 5 hours to Richland WA, arriving around 4 am to race a motocross race (with the help of my good friend Dallas Smith). I ended up breaking a major bone In my right hand In the 2nd of 4 moto’s, so I finished the moto, headed back to the van and put my hand on ice then raced the rest of my moto’s take the 450 Pro overall and 3rd In the Pro unlimited- with over 30 Pros In each class! Let me tell you it made for a very painful day. I got back down to Medford and got my hand x-rayed and it was definitely broken. I was really bummed to call Alan and let him know. Unfortunately that meant I would be missing the next WORCS race at Lake Havasu but we have many and I mean many more to come.

So now I am ready to get back on the bIke, I am really looking forward to the rest of the year working with Alan and the team-he has the bikes dialed in, we get along great and he Is definitely someone that’s going to be able to take me to the next level and I really appreciate his help. We are really looking forward to a busy schedule ahead of us with the National Enduro Cross Series, X Games, WORCS Series, selected outdoor nationals, Mammoth Motocross, etc. We will be starting fresh at the next race and It will be a great rest of the year dedicated to Woody, I know he will be right there watching over us. I really want to tell everyone thank you that is supporting our program whether you are a sponsor or just a friend with a helping hand- thank you all very much we really appreciate it!

Geoff Aaron, a 10-time AMA Trials Champion and current EnduroCross National #2 is looking forward to making a run at the EnduroCross title in 2011 with Stillwell Performance suspension keeping him in control on the gnarly EnduroCross tracks. “We are excited to be using Stillwell Performance tuned suspension on our Factory Geico Honda race bikes for EnduroCross and X-Games 2011. Alan does a lot of testing and I like that he is willing to think outside of the box and do whatever is necessary to make my suspension the best it can be. It’s great to work with someone as motivated as I am to win!” said an excited Aaron.

Aaron’s young teammate, Kyle Redmond, current EnduroCross National #5 is an EnduroCross podium threat and will be looking for his first-ever EnduroCross win in 2011. “I’m glad to be working with Alan from Stillwell Performance on my EnduroCross suspension.

Nathan Woods passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011 at the age of 32, from injuries sustained during the open practice session for the first round of the WORCS series in Taft, CA. Nathan is survived by his wife Amanda and their two sons, Nathan Jr. and Braxton.

Woods, with more WORCS’ wins to his name than any other rider in series history as well as two WORCS Championships to his credit, had joined the Carbon Raptor Stillwell Performance Racing for the 2011 season. Since joining the team, Woods had bonded well with his young teammate, Kevin Rookstool, and was very excited and motivated to begin the season with the new team and to help mentor Rookstool throughout the year.

“The entire team is extremely saddened by Nathan’s tragic passing. We were all so excited about this season and the opportunity to work with a great man and champion like Nathan and were confident he would have been a front runner in both the WORCS and EnduroCross series. We will race this season with heavy hearts, but knowing that Nathan will be with us, as demonstrated by Kevin’s amazing 6th overall finish yesterday despite the circumstances,” said Team Owner Alan Stillwell.

“Everyone at the RiderDown Foundation is deeply saddened by the loss of Nathan Woods this past weekend,” said Bruce Vermeulen, President of RiderDown. “He was a great ambassador for our sport and will be missed greatly. We are accepting donations to help the family during this very difficult time and will be sending an initial check from previous fundraising efforts immediately in memory of Nathan. 100% of all donations mentioning the Nathan Woods Memorial Fund will be given directly to the family.” Payments can be made through your PayPal account or with any major credit card with all proceeds going to support Nathan’s family. When submitting your donation please enter into the notes field that it is for the Nathan Woods Memorial Fund.
Nathan’s local Templeton, CA Rabobank location has also started a Nathan Woods Memorial Fund and will be accepting donations by check or credit card at any of their locations nationwide with all proceeds going to the Woods family.
